The SEHC has had multiple
training days this year but my favorite event was the
Family Fun Day that we held at our home in
Jonesborough, TN. About twenty- five members, wives, and
children came for a day of sun, fun, great food and of
course some great dog work.
Girls just want to have
fun!

We had several new members
come by and in true Southern hospitality and fashion;
they were welcomed by all like long time friends. Most
of our participants were first time handlers with VJP
puppies and we had several great learning opportunities
for both handlers and dogs. It was great to see a puppy
go from having no prior bird contacts to pointing and
holding point after just a few birds.

The highlight of the day
had to be the rabbit work. It was worth the drive just
to see the handler’s faces beam with pride and not a
little astonishment as they watched the prey drive turn
on in their 4 month old puppies. The handler’s faces
could only be exceeded by the horrified facial
expressions of their wives as they watched that cute,
innocent, little fuzz ball that sleeps in their laps
turn into a relentless rabbit hunting maniac. All pups
had at least two contacts with good running rabbits,
with the tracks and chases lasting several minutes. All
pups made great strides in VJP preparation and the
handlers were amazed that a dog so young could perform
at such a level. Isn’t this breed fantastic?

The plans for the Annual
Meeting are all but finalized. Check out the details
posted in the newsletter. It can not be over emphasized
that January 15, 2008 is the reservation deadline.
