The SEHC held it's 2006 Annual Meeting & Auction in Hamilton, Georgia in February along with several other events. This was the most well attended annual meeting for the chapter with over 50 in attendance for the weekend long event, traveling from every state in the chapter and as far as Virginia & Missouri. There were SEVERAL new members present, who are preparing to take their pups through their first test. All Chapter representatives were present as well as 3 members of the GNA Board: Bryon Beaton & Ed Carney who are members of the chapter, and also Jim Wion who served as a Breedshow and Btr judge.

At the Business Meeting the following items were voted on:

The highlight of the weekend was a
Falconry Demonstration

Wes, his Gyr X Prairie falcon, Ozzie, & Minka vom Moorehaus

A typical hunt with Ozzie involves marking game in a field. This year, I marked by sight and with the addition of the Drahthaar I will be able to fly off "points".  I take Ozzie out of his transport box and attach a small radio tracker on him.  Ozzie will climb into the sky in circles.  Sometimes tight and sometimes large circles a 1/4 of a mile off. Once he gets to a good height for the area and game we are flying, I will wave him over head or he will just come over head on his own accord.  We attempt to flush the game and Ozzie will fold his wings and stoop through the quarry while delivering a debilitating blow. He will pitch up and roll over and bind to the quarry and he typically kills the quarry by severing its spinal cord. In classic falconry, especially out west, the birds are pointed first and the falcon is released and follows the preceding sequence and the game is flushed at just the right moment. Falcons are quite "versatile" themselves and take game from sparrows to geese  from bugs to jackrabbits in a variety of styles.

Jessica, Kammie, Sarah and Kaylee
Daughters of Mike & Cindy Fortner of TN

The meal for the banquet was prepared by Rick Spivey of NC and Tracie Moore of GA. While much adult preparation is required to pull off such an event, it was the unexpected assistance provided by the Fortner girls that was not only appreciated but especially enjoyed. What a wonderful attitude and desire to help they have! They washed and wrapped 50 baking potatoes, prepared salad bowls, helped decorate tables, and provided much enjoyment.
